Everyone thinks him to be dead--or guilty. Without a word or sighting of Prince Lorrek of Cuskelom these last ten years, all believe the rumors of his crimes, which he is said to have committed, are true. However, when he finally returns to clear his name, Lorrek realizes the only way to find redemption is to become the very man they think him to be in this time when advanced technology challenges ancient magic to war.

Stripped of his memories and told he is a criminal of the worst kind, sorcerer Lorrek must commit one last dark deed to earn back his memories. However, he has no idea his target is family or that he is about to step into a war between advanced technology and ancient magic.

Sorcerer Prince Lorrek returns home to find chaos. It is feared Princess Mordora has released an ancient, embittered magic user from his prison. He must be stopped before he regains his strength and reduces all mankind to dust. At the same time, visitors from another world have come. They claim the World Orbs and handblades of Cuskelom are theirs, and they want them back, or there will be war. Lorrek must resolve both issues without ushering in another age of war and conflict.

Still, on the run from the Thymord Order, Lorrek begins remembering fragments of memories. They all center around a certain woman named Eldrila. Lorrek doesn't remember who she is or if she was important to him, and he doesn't understand why he is just now recalling these memories. It is almost as if a spell has been lifted. He can't focus on evading the Thymords as long as these memories keep resurfacing, so he searches through the magic realm to uncover what really happened in the past.

Still pursued by the Thymord Order, Lorrek needs to understand their origins and how they function in order to properly confront them. To do this, he must view events that occurred a thousand years ago at a time when the immortal kelliph race had humanity on the brink of extinction.
